WASTELANDS- Thilafushi, is an artificial island made entirely out of all the rubbish generated from the Maldives' capital, Male'. This is a photostory of the people who live their among the rubbish.

 

An estimated 5000 expatriate workers, mostly from Bangladesh and India, work and live on the island. While the total investment on the island itself by business tycoons amounts to over a billion Rufiyaa, many of workers have no work permits, insurance, proper living arrangement or any health monitoring schemes in place while working in one of the most dangerous and toxic environments imaginable.
